The Youth Success Project takes on projects that align with the individual and group goals of our members. Projects are decided on through a consensus decision making process by YSP Leaders, General Members, and Directors.

HUD'S Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project

The YHDP grant is given out by HUD each year and requires awarded communities to involve youth and young adults with lived experience in all stages of the grant process. The YSP is working closely with the Balance of State and Manchester Continuums of Care to closely plan for and execute their Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) grants.

The YSP provides consultation services to programs and organizations working with youth and young adults experiencing homelessness across the state of New Hampshire. We can help improve upon existing programs and services, inform the way that organizations expand to meet the needs of young people, and assist in engaging YYA utilizing services in authentic collaboration with adults.

Understanding the Need

Youth homelessness is an invisible issue in New Hampshire and one that we need to better understand to address. The YSP executed a series of focus groups in early 2022 and is working closely with the three New Hampshire continuums of care, the National Network 4 Youth, and Plymouth State University to carry out our first state-wide Youth Count survey during October 2022.

Community Awareness & Education

Stigma around homelessness was one of the main barriers that YYA experiencing homelessness discussed during focus groups run by the YSP in early 2022. We hope to run a community awareness campaign to raise awareness about homelessness and encourage young people to reach out and access help when available.

The YSP directors work with partners actively seek out opportunities for youth to build their communities, access professional and personal development supports, and step into leadership roles.

Recently our Assistant Director participated in the Granite Leaders Program and is a Board Member on the Governors Council for Housing Stability.

Homelessness among college students

Homelessness among college students is a real issue in New Hampshire and one that several of our members and alumni can speak to out of personal experience. The YSP is working with the Manchester and Balance of State Continuums of Care and colleges and universities across the state to share resources and engage in the work of ending youth homelessness among college students.
